#OpeningDay is a holiday around these parts.

Let’s treat it like one. pic.twitter.com/i56Qij0dvn
For the first time since 1968, all 30 MLB teams are going to be playing their first game on the same day. What a wonderful sight. The Yankees and Giants kick off the action at 1pm and then it is nonstop until 10:10pm EST, when the Guardians and Mariners first pitch is scheduled.
This is also the first year where every team plays each other an equal amount of times. The Yankees start their season with six home games against the Giants, as mentioned, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Very different from the standard divisional opponent game. Cole will be on the bump against Logan Webb, Anthony Volpe will be making his major league debut, and 2022 AL MVP Aaron Judge will take the field as the Yankees Captain for the very first time.
However, it will be an uphill battle to start the season for the Bombers, as Gerrit Cole is the only healthy starter in the rotation.
With Luis Severino projected to start the season on the IL, this is the Yankees current rotation. The only guy who hasn’t had an injury scare before the Bombers even play game 1 is Gerrit Cole. Not great! pic.twitter.com/kFxBjRo3Fn

For the Metropolitans, another year of high expectations. Scherzer is getting the Opening Day start, and Verlander will get the home opener at Citi on April 6.

The Mets lost closer Edwin Diaz for the year after he was injured during the World Baseball Classic, and the Yankees starters are all banged up. Not an ideal start to the season but hopefully good things ahead for both sides.
Let’s get started.
3/30 UPDATE: Not great for Mets fans. What is going on in NY?
Justin Verlander will be placed on the IL with a low grade teres major strain. He will continue throwing at moderate intensity and we will rescan in a week. We will provide an update at that time.
