‘Jersey Shore’ Reboot: You Can’t Recreate a National Phenomenon

Jersey Shore is getting a fresh set of roommates — more than a decade after the original crew hit the boardwalk. MTV announced that an all-new cast will be revealed for the upcoming season of Jersey Shore 2.0. “It’s been 13 years since the iconic cast of Jersey Shore fist-pumped their way into our lives and stole our hearts,” a release from the network said.

“Now, the time-honored tradition continues with a new group of roommates moving into their own Shore house. They may have traded their poofs for plumped pouts and UV rays for spray tans, but when things heat up in Jersey, the Shore is still the place to be to make memories all summer long.”

I am so disgusted with MTV. Desperate for original content yet again, MTV is digging back to reboot a classic Reality show to try and get viewers. The same thing happened 13 years ago, when MTV reached deep into their bag and pulled out the original Jersey Shore; premiering and taking an entire nation by storm. The Guido was in, guinea tee tank tops were acceptable to wear in public, a lot of hair gel, fake tans and Ed Hardy shirts, it was all because of Jersey Shore.

Now, the original cast is pissed, and rightfully so. I’m not a huge fan of Family Vacation, but that cast created the Jersey Shore brand. They made it marketable because they were all very unique people with big personalities. They were unfiltered and authentic and that is what made it so addicting to watch.

You simply cannot recreate a national phenomenon like Jersey Shore. Especially in todays social climate. I implore you to go back and rewatch some of the early episodes of the Shore, a lot of that stuff would not fly on television today. Phenomenons are that for a reason, they aren’t something that should be (or can be) duplicated. MTV is playing a dangerous game with the Jersey Shore brand and with the originals show’s cast and fanbase with this reboot.

But if it flops, I don’t think many will be surprised.
