While it’s early in the season, this defense is showing signs of the ones I loved growing up. The 2008-2010 defenses, widely regarded as the bests in the franchises history, led the league in numerous categories. The current defense is on a similar trajectory, having allowed an average of just 8.67 points per game through the first three weeks. This unit has the potential to etch its name alongside some of the franchise’s legendary units. Their ability to dominate in the trenches, apply consistent pressure, and create turnovers is needed to continue their undefeated start.

Justin Fields’ Efficient Performance
His most promising performance yet in his young tenure as a Steeler. Fields showcased his accuracy and decision-making, completing 25 of 32 passes for 245 yards. This marked his highest passing yardage of the season, demonstrating his growing comfort within the offense. Despite throwing his first interception of the year, Fields maintained his composure and continued to make smart plays throughout the game.
A moment for fans to rave about was when Fields connected with Calvin Austin III on a 55-yard touchdown pass. The throw broke the game open and allowed the Steelers’ to put the Chargers away. Fields’ calm demeanor and efficient play-calling were instrumental in controlling the game’s tempo. On the Road Again
This team’s ability to control the game on both sides of the ball is their identity to start this season. It is amazing how great the defense can be when their offense isn’t going three and out. This balanced approach, combining a stifling defense with an improving offense, has given them great early positioning in the AFC North race. Now taking their efforts to Indianapolis, they will face the youthful big play Colts offense. The young talents emerging will be called upon more often as coaches are looking for consistency for more playing time. With all the pieces coming together, fans are now buying in that Mike Tomlin has put together a gritty winning formula they enjoy watching on a week to week basis.
