Guess who’s back? Back again. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the greatest golfer and arguably one of the greatest athletes in sports history; the one and only Eldrick Tiger Woods.
From the moment I saw him hit the tarmac after his flight in to Augusta, there was no doubt in my mind that Tiger will be playing this coming weekend. We thought the *back fusion* comeback was a legendary feat, but I cannot wait to see what the golf mogul does come Thursday. We have seen it before in ’97, ’01, ’02, ’05, and ’19; that each of these past victories had something about them that you could never forget. Personally, I love to say that the greatest golf shot in history is the 2005 chip in on 16, but that’s just based situationally and due to the level of difficulty coming from the backside eventually leading toward water. Ok, enough about the past.
This past week, we have seen Tiger playing practice round after practice round since the Sunday prior to the 2022 Masters. From my personal research I have seen the man strike the ball looking good as new on the warm up range, as well as some shots along the way during his practice rounds. According to Tiger, he is striking the ball as good as usual, but obviously there are some potential complications that could arise. God forbid! As we all know Tiger was in a horrific car accident that left him with compound fractures in his legs, as well as other leg and foot complications. The doctors that operated said that amputation was on the table and that there was slim-to-none chance he could compete in golf again. From his own words previously during the week he had said that walking could potentially complicate things, but look at him now! It’s so great to see him playing practice rounds and getting back into the Masters mentality. There was no colder clip from a press conference than when Tiger said, “I do,” when asked if he could win the Masters. That’s just who the man is… he is a mogul, lionhearted athlete, and overall GOAT.
I’d be surprised to see him not make the cut if he does compete. Never count out the Tiger in his natural habitat. Maybe we’ll see a 2019 all over again, but that’s all we can hope for right now.
