STEVE COHEN IS HIM – KEEP SPENDING!

After a brutal end to the 2022 season, Steve Cohen is giving Mets fans hope this offseason. Despite losing DeGrom to free agency, Cohen has dug deep into his bank account to revive this team. With the latest signing of Carlos Correa (pending this physical debacle), the Mets’ spending total has risen to $806.1 million. This puts them at a higher payroll than the A’s, Brewers, Indians, Marlins, Nationals, Orioles, Pirates, Rays, Reds, Royals, and Twins COMBINED.

Correa signed a contract for 12 years, $310 million. Some other big arrangements Cohen has put together this offseason include-

David Robertson: 1-year, $10 Million

Brandon Nimmo: 8-years, $162 Million

Justin Verlander: 2-years, $86 Million

Edwin Diaz: 5-years for, $102 Million

Kodai Senga: 5-years, $75 Million

Adam Ottavino: 2-years, $14.5 Million

The addition of Carlos Correa is significant; the Mets needed good hitters to add to their lineup toward the end of last season. There is no doubt that the bats died down and seemingly contributed to a turbulent loss to the Padres in the Wildcard, after handing over the division to the Braves.

It is interesting to see how Cohen’s spending ways will change the MLB’s Free Agency market. His organizational management is drawing attention from across the League, and other teams might begin to feel pressure to follow in Cohen’s footsteps if the Mets succeed with this strategy.

The Yankees have always been the team in New York to create buzz around their spending habits. In response to the situation, Yankee’s owner Hal Steinbrenner said on WFAN Sports Radio that Cohen’s spending is “something to be looked” at and that it is good to have “two great New York teams.”

No doubt, Cohen’s spending has put other owners in the league on notice. Overall, it is exciting for baseball and will give the fans something to be excited about. As a Mets fan, it is nice knowing that our owner is doing everything in his power to make this team a championship contender. Although there is a long road ahead, this team is on a path to future success.
