The NBA Has Been Popping Off

Obviously, the news of Damar Hamlin’s tragic injury during ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast was what everyone had their eyes on last night, rightfully so. That incident transcends sports, it’s no longer about a player for your favorite team or an athlete, it is a human being’s life that hangs in the balance. It’s a horrifying reality of the game of Football but also a freak accident. A nightmare come to life. Everyone’s thoughts and prayers should be with that young man, who is only 24 years old.

If I could act with a sense of normalcy for the rest of this article, I’d like to point out that the NBA has been absolutely freaky over the past month. Many big stars are lighting it up on a daily basis. Look at what happened last night alone:

My Donovan Mitchell slander will be put on hold until further notice. 71/11/8 on crazy efficiency, just gotta tip your cap at that point. Immediately after that, the Warriors went into double OT with the Hawks and Klay had 54, with Kevon Looney ending the game with a put-back layup. The level of play from the big time stars in the League this year has been practically unprecedented.

Jokic is making a case for his third MVP, but there are so many that are nipping at his heels. Embiid, Durant, Luka, LeBron, Giannis, and Jayson Tatum are all right there. Usually at this point in the season, the MVP race has narrowed down to two contenders, with three, maybe four players on the outside. But right now there are a solid four, with a few others lurking from the outside to make a strong push, it truly is insane the level of play so many are playing at.

It’s unfortunate that such a fun night in the NBA had to take a back seat to real life. All of AH’s thoughts are with Damar Hamlin, and we hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
