Giants Trade a Seventh Round Pick for Cardinals LB/S Isaiah Simmons

Value! A great trade by Giants GM Joe Schoen. You take this swing 10 times out of 10. Isaiah Simmons was the eighth overall pick out of Clemson by the Cardinals in 2020, and he was always considered to be an insane athlete.

He’s been something of an in-betweener in Arizona, playing Linebacker and Safety, but his physical gifts are unquestioned; it’s just a matter of putting him in a scheme that fits his style.

The Giants have a long history of great linebackers, but this unit has been mediocre for years now. Going from Tae Crowder and Jaylon Smith (no offense) to Bobby Okereke by free agency and Isaiah Simmons by trade, is very significant.

These two guys specifically are very athletic. Okereke is a tackle machine, and Simmons can play that hybrid role between Safety and Linebacker well enough to give the Giants, and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, some fun flexibility.

A great value trade for Simmons to bolster this defense and linebacking core. Worst case scenario, it doesn’t work out; but you got him for a seventh round pick, an incredibly low risk that can potentially yield a high reward.

A+ move by Schoen.
